“American Ultra” is a romance, a comedy and an action movie all in one. In the film, Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg are totally convincing as a loving but odd couple. They told Deco about playing two people in love with each other, and it turns out it wasn’t that hard.
Mike Howell finds out he isn’t just a stoner in “American Ultra.” He’s a trained government agent!
Jesse Eisenberg (as Mike Howell): “I took a spoon and I just like shoved it through this guy.”
Kristen Stewart (Phoebe): “Why are people trying to stab you?”
Jesse Eisenberg (as Mike Howell): “I don’t know, but I am freaking out. I have a lot of anxiety about this. (car explodes) Oh! That would’ve hurt.”
Mike is in love with Phoebe, and to him, that’s all that matters. The lovebirds are played by Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart.
Jesse Eisenberg: “We’re these, like, kinda sweet kids in the middle of rural West Virginia, like stoner pacifists, and then, like, basically one night, the CIA comes to kill us and we have to defend ourselves, and it’s for reasons that are explained in the movie, but I don’t want to give away.”
John Leguizamo: “‘American Ultra’ is sort of a ‘Bourne Supremacy’ meets a stoner flick. Jesse Eisenberg plays this slacker guy who was trained by the CIA, but he doesn’t know it ’cause they wiped his memory, but when he gets stoned, the CIA part comes back.”
John Leguizamo joins Kristen and Jesse in this action comedy.
John Leguizamo: “I’m kind of a friend, enabler kinda guy, one of those people who hangs on and gets you stuff that you need, that you shouldn’t be having.”
John told Deco that the chemistry between Jesse and Kristen is undeniable.
John Leguizamo: “When you see them off camera, they’re just constantly talking and riffing and goofing, and it’s wonderful to watch them.”
The two were together in “Adventureland” a couple of years ago, and as it turns out, they’re good friends.
Jesse Eisenberg: “We probably have a similar sense of humor; yeah, that’s helpful. And we’re both relatively sane people; that’s probably also very helpful.”
John Leguizamo: “I think Jesse Eisenberg is just a naturally funny guy and super bright, and I think the two of them hanging out together all the time created that chemistry.”
No wonder they make such a great couple on screen.
Kristen Stewart: “Their relationship in the movie is sweet because they really are, they are best friends and, you know, he’s cool, I like him. You know, we could be friends.”
Jesse Eisenberg: “Even best friends.”
Kristen Stewart: “Really?”
Jesse Eisenberg: “Yeah, even best friends. That’s right.”
“American Ultra” opens in theaters Aug. 21.
